What is Swine Flu?
Swine flu, is a variation of normal flu. (Flu is also known as Influenza) Swine
flu is a bit different than the normal variety flu in that it can also infect swine
(pigs). Most flu cannot do this.
Furthermore swine flu also has characteristics of Bird Flu (avian flu).
How Dangerous is Swine Flu?
As of the end of April 2009, All of Swine Flu had a death rate of about 10%. More
recent mortality rates declined to around 6% as being aware of the flu helps medical
professionals fight it. The best thing to do is prevent the flu.
The Swine Flu has actually hit the US several times. There were Swine Flu
outbreaks in the US in 1978 and 1988. In 1978, there was enough concern where
40 million people in the US got a Swine Flu vaccine. Even president Ford got
the vaccine.

How Contagious is Swine Flu?
Swine Flu is no more contagious than normal flu. The major concern is that
Swine Flu may be able to pass to from people-to-animals and back. That has the potential
to spread the flu much further than person-to-person flu.
How Do I Prevent Getting Swine Flu?
The simplest way to cut your risk is following 2 rules.
- Wash your hands frequently
- Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth ESPECIALLY
if you have not washed your hands.
